Better Than Sex: Elite Theory, Power, Romney, and American Decline
By Joseph Andrew Settanni
Men and nations, principalities and empires, rise, then live out their span of existence, and eventually fall, as history has shown too many numerous times to recount fully. And yet, seeing the passing away of one’s own nation is rarely done with a true sense of equanimity, no matter how philosophical one can be about the often long and drawn out spectacle.
Of course, a contrary view could be, e. g., put forward by a neoconservative crackpot in the lively spirit of a Ben Wattenberg; or, perhaps, one may wish to invoke the neoconservative optimism that Charles Murray, in his Coming Apart: The State of White America, 1960-2010, has for the American upper classes that are, he assures readers, supposed now to be in a real recovery mode. Must this country destroy itself?
All will not end, however, with some fantastic blast or bang, as many believe; signs logically point to the gradual demise of this country being done, finally, with a contemptible whimper. What, directly here contrary to Charles Murray and neoconservatism, is really going on? Is there an explanation? Yes, but it is a rather dark or malicious one not fit for tender ears.
Elites and Elitism
When a society’s predominant elites (the majority of them) become truly decadent and degenerate as in America [roughly analogously, the way that a fish rots from the head down], due mainly to a superfluity of wealth by which they now live at a level extremely far above the masses of the common people (poor, lower and middle class), they no longer see public service as being a sincere public trust and true honor. Their fantastic economic or, rather, socioeconomic dominance and regnancy creates in their minds thoughts of empirically validated elitism by which their superiority is affirmed by lifestyles distinctly above and beyond the mass herd of humanity.
The political, as to their cognition, becomes necessarily disvalued in the mind of the ruling class, which is basically, though not exclusively, the same as the political class. Incidentally, good and much needed reading, for those intelligently inclined, would absolutely include the very related interesting writings of Roberto Michels, Vilfredo Pareto, and Gaetano Mosca, all of whom had written upon the here presented subject of elite theory.
The rather blatant dis-valuation of politics as being no more than a game of power politics pollutes the society and culture and makes a mockery, as a result, of governance qua government; it is a vindication of the thinking of Georges Sorel, author of Reflections On Violence, and, of course, even centuries earlier, of Machiavelli himself; some would credit him with earliest development of the origins of elite theory.
As a direct consequence, the abusive politics of such a deracinated society and its cognate cesspool culture (extensive abortion, rampant pornography, legalized sodomy, prolific promiscuity, drug addiction, etc.) produce lesser epigones, imitators of the powerful, to run for and hold political office. It is, as such, a great game.
The Nietzschean-Pelagian elites, therefore, genuinely think that the noted filth and drudgery of domestic politics, especially at the national level, is just simply beneath them; they have, in addition, true cosmopolitan intellectual, psychological, and emotional orientations; they are all free-born “citizens” of the world; patriotism, treated as a common joke, is for the lesser unintelligent, dull-witted, breeds who do grunt, drink beer, are dedicated to sports and sports teams, watch soap operas and/or porn flicks, etc. as to their various and so unimportant brain-dead amusements (aka entertainments).
The bulk of their fellows, lacking the “required” upper class status, are clearly held in cold contempt with added scorn and pitiless ridicule; the elites, consequently, have become not just plainly or casually unpatriotic but, rather, haughtily dis-patriotic to an arrogant extreme; they are, in effect and to all intents and purposes, fully internal expatriates merely existing as such; none really, e. g., make a claim to “my native land” as in Sir Walter Scott’s Lay of the Last Minstrel, for their souls are dead. They, the special ones, are now ethically and morally, not just socially and culturally, separate from the general population in thinking themselves to be both forever apart from their American/domestic sociocultural reality and, thus, definitionally superior beings.
The Earthly Gods among Us: Elite Craftsmanship
The vast majority of this country’s millionaires, about 30 million or so, and its billionaires only inhabit this nation as a kind of recreational preserve for themselves alone; it is not really their country with its often sweating and too foul-breath-filled masses (a separate species) fit only, exclusively, to be their mere Neanderthalish servants, when and if needed, of course.
Both major political parties, as is known, do have their financiers who take pleasure manipulating the public and making sure that their upper-class lifestyles are never really hurt by the doings of mere politics in this nation. Power, coming after a superfluity of money itself, is then the enduring aphrodisiac of these earthly deities.
It is, thus, the remaining “fun sport” for the leadership elements, the high cosmopolitan superiors, of the Democrat and Republican Parties, which purpose is to better assist with the downward spiraling into the societal and cultural cesspool that is now the USA. Candidates are chosen, for national offices, which will go along to get along with the decadent direction of things, with the evil course of social, cultural, ethical, moral, and spiritual degradation and decay favored strongly by the elites.
Admittedly, “errors” can and do occur; the controls, of course, are not yet foolproof or perfected; yet, they do keep trying and, increasingly, they are more substantially successful in their very heinous efforts at destruction because of this all-consuming love, of this terrene worship, of power. Such elite craftsmanship can be perceived, by observant thinkers, with the heir-apparent nominee to be given the leadership position of the Grand Old Party.
Mitt Romney and National Suicide
The basic GOP hierarchy, meaning its predominant core leadership class, the yacht club/country club set, has both openly and knowingly willed the destruction of the United States of America. How so? They made it fully possible, not ever accidentally so, that Mitt Romney, the Gerald Ford of 2012, the Bob Dole of 2012, the John McCain of 2012, get the Republican nomination for President of this slowly dying country. Voting for Romney is, however, equivalent to worrying about proverbially rearranging the deck chairs on the HMS Titanic; or, grasping defeat from the jaws of victory.
Those politically moderate-toward-liberal RINOs all lost, as is or ought to be known; George H. W. Bush, when he ran explicitly as a RINO for reelection in 1992, had lost. This is all part of American political history; but, four losers [grasping defeat from the jaws of victory] do not, in the least, deter the decadent and degenerate leadership of the Republican Party from boldly committing this nation to its political and economic suicide; this will certainly be, consequently, through the obnoxious Romney nomination. Having him as the (hopeless) nominee would likely prove that God had, indeed, laid a terrible and deserved curse upon the citizenry of this nation.
What is, as to the bottom line, the true nature of the severe criticism directed firmly against Romney? Many feel it is better to have in the White House someone who is, in fact, a traitor intent upon destroying this country, rather than a hypocrite RINO who would, in the end, seek to also destroy this nation, in basically the same manner, under whatever euphemisms guiding its destruction. And, really much more than that is importantly involved, of course. How so?
Why is there this adamantly persistent and unyielding opposition to this former governor of MA?
It would psychologically and emotionally so greatly hurt the mainly conservative base of the GOP to know that it was a putative Republican who participated willingly and knowingly in the devastation of the once-great United States of America, if RINO Romney became President. It is empirically true, furthermore, that the vast majority of ballots cast in this Republican presidential primary and caucus season have, in fact, NOT been for Romney; the conservative vote, as is known, has been unfortunately split.
Most Republicans, thus, especially the conservative base majority, definitely do not want Romney, as ought to be easily obvious and without any rational question. Admittedly, however, there is real sadness. Why?
Romney: The Halloween Candidate
The choice (the Romney nomination) is simply devastating. People are supposed to (insanely?) believe that he actually is what he apparently pretends to be, and is not what he actually is in reality. Bizarre interrogatives [as a kind of new-style, ghastly political trick or treat] do, thus, quite wildly and profusely, frenetically and prolifically, as well as quite frighteningly and sickeningly, abound:
Is he, so-to-speak, some sort of a mainly neo-quasi-conservative or, perhaps, a pseudo-quasi-neo-conservative?
Or, is he really a sort of basic neo-quasi-pseudo-conservative? Or, is this Mormon fellow, alternately, some kind of a fairly mixed or composite quasi-neo-pseudo-conservative? Is the presumptive “conservative” Romney of today that extremely different, supposedly, from the liberal/leftist politician of yesteryear? Could he be, possibly, just a non-conservative who now talks mostly like a conservative, yet, is so fully capable of betraying conservatism, at critical moments, should he actually become the Chief Executive?
Is this man from MA, a former very liberal governor thereof no less, just a plain RINO in disguise or, on the other hand, just a real RINO putatively pretending rather too hard not to be one? Can one realistically envision the candidate of, say, just these two or so past years as being totally unlike or opposed, in contrast, to the politician of some longer years ago?
Would the good “New Romney” be, therefore, then much different from the bad “Old Romney” (as alleged) who, one assumes, used to exist? There are serious and unending questions of credibility.
Yet, nonetheless, there is an easy and simply practical way of getting at the open truth of Romney. He recently proposed, meaning not many years ago but, rather, only a short time ago this very year, that the Federal minimum wage be indexed for inflation. This, thus, so sharply demonstrates his vile thinking. It then foreshadows clearly, moreover, his (liberal) actions should he, unfortunately, become President.
Not being at all a stupid man, Romney full well knows that the minimum wage: damages the economy, forces many small American firms to go out of business, severely hurts young people, poor people, and working-class people by destroying many entry-level jobs, stops numerous needed opportunities for positive entrepreneurship, causes more unemployment among young Black people, empowers greatly Big Labor (by always raising their labor-bargaining chip), and, in general, logically favors more Big Government, Liberalism, and the overall success of the Regulatory State. No one needs to guess about this matter.
Greater statism, tyranny by another name, the Hobbesian Leviathan, must inevitably result. Not exactly the appropriate thinking of an assumed conservative (Romney?) who, supposedly, strongly supports American jobs creation, true free-market economics, lively entrepreneurship, a healthy small business climate, political liberty, smaller government, etc.
The mainly conservative base of the party is now to absurdly pretend, somehow or other, in their own minds and hearts, that this “figment” of their imaginations is, seemingly, someone who could, perhaps, pretend to be another type or kind of Ronald Wilson Reagan for the 21st century. Such lunacy/idiocy would have to become pandemic. But, it would be intolerable.
Maybe, … if one could just fully close one eye, look sideways, throw vinegar in the still open eye, take some hard psychedelic drug(s), believe ardently in the wonderful Wizard of Oz, etc. and go to the voting booth this November for the national general election, it may be then just possible to cast a [decisively wacko] vote for Romney, thinking him, on whatever warped-mind basis imaginable, to be really otherwise than what he genuinely is, meaning, of course, a true RINO, not any kind of a true conservative, of course.
The problem, it should be honestly said, is that the GOP core leadership, being part of the ruling class/elite, do greatly hate conservatism and conservatives much more than they would ever really worry about Obama. By favoring Romney’s nomination and securing it, they keenly know that it truly means Obama’s resulting reelection; they are not simply stupid; they are, in point of fact, perfidious contemptible scoundrels of the lowest sort.
Are There Any Choices?
Perhaps, the best thing that might happen would be if all the non-Romney candidates, at the GOP Convention, pool their delegates together to then pick a candidate much more wanted by the fundamentally conservative base of the party and by enough conservative independents and conservative-leaning moderates and centrists.
Yes, that would so greatly offend the Republican organizational establishment. But, the general electorate, in November 2012, would, therefore, get a good chance to really vote for a proper winner, not a destined RINO loser.
Yes, the Romney/Ford/Dole/Bush/McCain candidate would, of course, be then fully prevented from getting the nomination (and, consequently, losing in November to Obama, of course).
But, the country would be joyously spared another four years of the domination of the Great One (aka Obama). Yes, such a truly good outcome would upset the many nefarious plans and evil disgusting schemes of the core leadership of both major political parties. But, the USA could be given time, God willing, to hopefully recover from the horrible nightmare of trying to dreadfully turn this country into a European-style, social-democratic/socialist State, (which is also, in secret, what Romney himself actually wants).
No, the answer is not, e. g., to possibly get Rick Santorum as Romney’s VP choice as a compromise because, as opinion survey polls have always consistently shown, voters typically, meaning the majority, decide to cast a ballot on the basis of who heads the ticket, not otherwise. If Santorum (or someone politically close enough to such a relatively conservative candidate of that nature) gets the nomination, then there is hope for a victory; otherwise, this nation is to keep heading down the path of tyranny and a growing despair, from which it may never recover, for at least several generations at best (if at all).
Conclusion
If the conservative candidate is fairly Reagan-like enough, he can easily win in November because he will not be a RINO; on the other hand, if the nominee is Romney, then, of course, prepare for only an inevitable defeat. The political choice is rather manifestly clear, not really unknown or unknowable.
Conservatism can certainly win, as witness Reagan and, moreover, his reelection, both, by the way, successful electoral landslides; RINOs lose, with Romney then becoming, as is so easily predicted, the fifth failure in GOP history.* [see: note below]
Therefore, as this article has strongly argued, for the sake of America for generations to come, he must not be the Republican nominee; he is highly favored by the ruling class, inclusive, in this case, of the political establishment; this is, primarily, because they do expect him, of course, to lose. Romney’s nomination would be fatal to the Republic, for he is the wrong man at the wrong time for the wrong job, which needs to be always fundamentally understood.

*RINOs, of course, enjoy endlessly citing the totally wrong historical lesson for, as usual, their very deceitful and vicious self-serving purposes. US Sen. Barry Goldwater was originally campaigning against JFK, not LBJ. People do conveniently forget exactly why Kennedy had to be in Dallas, TX on that fatal day. He was actually afraid of losing the then Solid South, as it was called, by the Democrat Party.
Though Kennedy had a Texan, Johnson, as his VP, he still knew that Goldwater would take most of the South; a truly historic turnaround of momentous proportions overturning the political settlement of the aftermath of the War Between the States (aka Civil War), meaning the post-Reconstruction South. Those were, therefore, the true historical, political, and empirical facts, though they are still being usually denied today.
Goldwater, as with any other Republican candidate/nominee, had NO way whatsoever of campaigning against the greatly praised ghost of a “martyred” President! Furthermore, LBJ, it is conveniently forgotten, once again, had depicted himself as the true American conservative battling against the supposedly “radical” Goldwater. In addition, the disloyal RINOs of the GOP, meaning the Rockefeller/East Coast Wing of the party, had figuratively stabbed their party’s nominee in the back.
They fully supported LBJ’s plainly propagandistic theme of Goldwater radicalism; moreover, they had quite enthusiastically undermined his campaign in various ways.
Thus, e. g., Santorum (or any equivalent person) is NOT to be then so wrongly equated with Goldwater (aka a Republican loser), meaning conservatism, in fact, as the issue in this 2012 campaign.
